Dr. Eugene Kelly appointed NEON visiting head scientist

July 7, 2015

Eugene Kelly

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Eugene Kelly as NEON’s Visiting Head Scientist. Gene, as he likes to be known, brings a deep level of experience and reputation as a well-respected leader in the fields of soil science, ecosystem ecology and environmental sustainability.

Gene has spent the bulk of his career at Colorado State University (CSU), and for the past five years, has served as Head of the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. Concurrently, he has been Associate Director for Research and Development with CSU’s School of Global Environmental Sustainability since 2008.

In addition to his many contributions at CSU, Gene has held leadership roles with many outside organizations, providing him the opportunity to engage with and become a recognized leader among members of the national scientific community. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest and Range Management from CSU, a Master of Science in Soil Science from CSU and a Doctorate in Soil Science from University of California, Berkeley.

Gene is anticipated to begin his official role with NEON Aug. 3. We will provide further details, including Gene’s vision for the important role the NEON Observatory will play in the scientific community, as we approach his start date.
