About Christine

Christine Laney is an ecoinformaticist interested in making ecological and environmental data more accessible and actionable to diverse audiences. Christine joined NEON in 2015 as the product owner for NEON's Data Portal and a developer of data product pipelines. In her current role, she also oversees technical aspects of the primary website; works on the formal metadata associated with NEON data products (as NEON's Informatics Lead); and builds partnerships with organizations that support the development of informatics best practices, such as the Research Data Alliance (RDA) and Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP).

Christine's Ph.D. dissertation and subsequent postdoc research at The University of El Paso, Texas, focused on ecological data sharing practices and on database and software design to enhance connectivity between ecologists to support large-scale research while promoting research reproducibility. Her background has included field research with whales, birds, and plants, as well as computational biological studies reliant on bayesian statistics and programming. Christine is an avid R programmer and bicycle commuter.
