Zoe Gentes supports the communication and engagement strategies for NEON and its growing user community. Primary responsibilities include annual communications plans across the Education and Engagement, Field Science, and Science teams; creating outreach and informational material; helping curate NEON webpages and content; writing and publishing blog posts and newsletters; assisting with press releases; and developing social media campaigns.
Zoe has a B.S. in Geology & Geological Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. She worked at Scripps Institution of Oceanography after graduation in the Whale Acoustics Lab before returning to URI to earn a M.S. in Oceanography, concentration in geochemistry. Her thesis focused on basalt oxidation and composition in the Vanuatu island arc of the South Pacific. She was a Knauss Marine Science Policy Fellow in the US House of Representatives, before working for the Ecological Society of America in their Public Affairs Office.
