An active retrogressive thaw slump near Lake LTER 395/GTH89 (68.5259275°N, 149.5445882°W) is currently expanding at an estimated rate of approximately ten meters per year. This site is of considerable interest to the research community at Toolik Field Station. Including this location in the NEON Airborne Observation Platform (AOP) flight survey over D18 TOOK and TOOL would enable systematic data collection, supporting ongoing efforts to monitor the progression of the thaw slump and evaluate its effects on surrounding ecosystems.
Examining the impact of microbial communities and minerals on soil carbon and nitrogen cycling. Soils are collected from diverse NEON sites for incubations to explore the impact of interaction between soil microbes and minerals on POM and MAOM storage.
