Data Notification

Removal of aquatic biogeochemical data at D03 between Aug-Dec 2023 due to incorrect filters

March 21, 2024

Due to an ordering error at NEON’s Southeast Domain (D03), aquatic biogeochemical samples that are required to be collected with GF/F grade filters with a 0.7 µm pore size were collected with an alternative filter that was not Grade F and was documented to have a pore size range of 0.7 - 7.0 µm. Multiple sample classes were collected with the incorrect filters between August – December 2023, and multiple data products were affected. Affected samples, published as Provisional at the time of this data notification, were permanently removed from the NEON Data Portal and appropriate field and lab data were edited to indicate affected samples were discarded. The affected Data Products, tables, and analytes are listed below:

  • DP1.20206.001 - Stable isotopes in surface water
    • asi_POMExternalLabDataPerSample
      • isotope ratios: d13C, d15N
      • particulate concentrations: carbon, nitrogen
  • DP1.20093.001 – Chemical properties of surface water
    • swc_externalLabDataByAnalyte
      • total particulate carbon and nitrogen: TPC, TPN
  • DP1.20166.001 – Periphyton, seston, and phytoplankton collection
    • alg_biomass
      • Ash free dry mass (AFDM) samples
  • DP1.20163.001 – Periphyton, seston, and phytoplankton chemical properties
    • alg_algaeExternalLabDataPerSample
      • isotope ratios: d13C, d15N, d34S
      • particulate concentrations: carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus
      • chlorophyll a, pheophytin

Please use the Contact Form for further inquiries; please select DP1.20166.001 (for algae collection), DP1.20163.001 (for algal chemistry), DP1.20206.001 (for surface water isotopes) or DP1.20093.001 (for surface water chemistry) in the Data Product drop-down list and include the term "PRB0041103" in the body of your request.
