About Jackie

Jackie Matthes is an Assistant Professor at Wellesley College in the Department of Biological Sciences with broad expertise in ecosystem ecology. In Jackie's undergraduate teaching at Wellesley, where her courses range from introductory organismal biology to ecosystem ecology, she incorporates inclusive pedagogical methods to build quantitative skills for all students. Jackie's research lab at Wellesley includes a vibrant team of undergraduate scientists who use multidisciplinary approaches to study how and why terrestrial ecosystems change. Jackie is currently a co-PI on the Hubbard Brook Long-Term Ecological Research grant and two other NSF-funded projects where her research team works with collaborators to merge long-term observations of forest dynamics and disturbances with statistical and mechanistic ecosystem models to improve our understanding of past and future forests.
