Senior Staff Scientist, NEON Science Lead & Small Mammal and Avian Ecology
Kate Thibault, NEON Science Lead, is a macroecologist and project manager (PMP) by training. She earned her Ph.D. in Biology at the University of New Mexico with Jim Brown. Her dissertation research focused on the temporal dynamics in the structure and function of the desert rodent community at the LTREB site near Portal, AZ. She came to NEON in 2011 from Utah State University, where she was a postdoctoral fellow in macroecology. She is responsible for designing the small mammal and breeding bird sampling for NEON and has served as lead for the Terrestrial Observation System since 2015 and NEON Science Lead since 2017.
