Discontinuation of Dust and Particulate Size Distribution Data Product (DP1.00017.001)

The Dust and Particulate Size Distribution data product (DP1.00017.001) provides near real-time measurements of particulate matter (PM)1.0, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, PM15 and Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) in the atmosphere at six NEON sites, however, it has suffered from low validity since initial operations. While multiple changes were made to field protocols and data processing to address these issues (see data notification Protocol and Data Processing Updates for Dust and Particulate Size Distribution (DP1.00017.001) for more details), the improvements in quality were suboptimal and a full redesign of the data collection system would be required to meet our data quality targets. After consulting with members of the community, the Atmospheric Deposition Technical Working Group, and the U.S. National Science Foundation, NEON has decided to discontinue this product.
As of May 2025, NEON has stopped normal maintenance of the sensors and related components which produce this data product. After this date, data availability is subject to the functionality of previously installed components and may be limited. Sensors will be decommissioned throughout 2025. Previously collected data will remain available for download on the NEON data portal.
