AOP Lidar Data Quality Notification - Update

January 13, 2023

This is an update to the earlier data notification, "AOP Lidar Data Quality Notification" posted in September 2022, which notified users of high noise levels and improper classification of that noise in lidar data collected with the Optech Galaxy Prime sensor.

Fewer sites were affected than were posted in the original Data Notification, however some additional sites collected in additional years, including sites collected with the Riegl Q780 sensor at higher power settings were also affected, and all of the AOP data products were affected. Because the Spectrometer and Camera data products use the DTM generated by the Lidar sensor in the orthorectification process, these data products are being updated as well. Table 1 below summarizes a complete list of the affected data products, and Table 2 provides an updated list of the sites and publication months which will be corrected.

Teledyne Optech has provided some noise-filtering routines in their Lidar Mapping Suite software, which AOP is implementing to remove excess noise and improve noise classification for the affected sites. Provisional data products from 2021 are currently being updated and are expected to be completed by the end of January 2023 as part of RELEASE-2023. There will be a short period of time in January (expected 2-5 business days) when the data will not be available, while we are replacing the affected data with the corrected data.

Please use the Contact Us form for further inquiries regarding this issue, or if you are interested in the status in a specific site listed below and include the term "INC0059048" in the body of your request.
