NEON's annual data release, RELEASE-2026, is now available for download.
At the end of each calendar year, NEON staff conducts a thorough review of the data, makes any final corrections, and tags data files with a release year and unique DOI, which supports best practices for citation in papers and publications. DOI URLs will always resolve back to the dataset and are thus ideal for citing NEON data in publications and applications. These data releases remain stable (for all subsystems) and accessible (for all subsystems except AOP) throughout the lifetime of the Observatory. RELEASE-2026 includes 169 data products annotated by 136 DOIs. Please read the Release 2026 webpage to learn more about the specifics of this particular release.
Updated versions of the R and Python neonUtilities packages have been published along with the data release. To keep up to date with the latest dataset updates, use R neonUtilities version 3.0.3 or higher and Python neonutilities version 1.2.1 or higher.
