About Christine

Christine Laney is an ecological informaticist interested in making ecological and environmental data more accessible and actionable to diverse audiences. Christine joined NEON in 2015. As NEON's Informatics Lead, she leads the development of NEON's Data Portal and oversees technical aspects of NEON's primary website; develops the formal metadata associated with NEON data products; and builds partnerships with organizations that support the development of data management best practices, such as the Research Data Alliance (RDA) and Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP).

Christine's Ph.D. dissertation and subsequent postdoc research at The University of El Paso, Texas, focused on ecological data sharing practices and on database and software design to enhance connectivity between ecologists to support large-scale research while promoting research reproducibility. Her background has included field research with plants, sensors, and birds, as well as computational biological studies reliant on bayesian statistics and programming.
