About Alycia

Alycia is an interdisciplinary researcher that supports strategic planning and evaluation for the NEON project’s community engagement activities. She helps ensure NEON stays committed to broadening participation in the project, partnering with organizations committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in data science and environmental science fields. Alycia received her PhD in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to coming to NEON, Alycia worked in the field of citizen science for ten years. Her citizen science work supported big data collection efforts for invasive species, engaging Indigenous peoples in Montana and minority youth organizations in Wisconsin and Colorado. She also served as the Director of the Virginia Master Naturalist program, leading strategic planning and evaluation for the program in collaboration with its 2500 volunteers, 30 local chapters, and seven state sponsoring agencies.
