About Stefan

Stefan joined NEON's Fundamental Instrument Unit (FIU) in 2011 as postdoctoral researcher, where he is designing a spatially explicit framework to analyze and QA/QC NEON's eddy-covariance flux measurements in near real-time. In his doctoral studies, Stefan developed algorithms that reliably estimated wind- and eddy-covariance flux measurements from cost-efficient and highly transportable weight-shift microlight aircraft. In a collaboration of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) he also designed airborne flux measurement campaigns in Germany and China. By combining wavelet-, footprint- and regression techniques, Stefan successfully used the obtained data to scale the heat-exchange from the flight lines to a region. Prior to that he earned his graduate degree from the University of Bayreuth (Germany), where he studied Geoecology and Chinese. His graduate tenure was the basis of Stefan's interest and strong foundation in boundary layer flows. His thesis is titled Footprint Climatology, Land Use Contribution and Quality Assessment of Tibetan Plateau Flux Measurement Sites.
