About Liz

Liz creates and manages resources for training NEON field staff to ensure protocols and procedures are consistently implemented across field sites. She develops the training content, including instructor-led and self-guided presentations, videos, tutorials, curriculum guides, lesson plans, and assessment instruments. Responsibilities also include developing our cadre of trainers by providing instruction and guidance on effective methods of adult learning and implementing our training curriculum. She works closely with field and HQ science staff to identify training needs and provide annual, in-person, trainings for fulltime staff. Contact Liz if you would like to know more about our training program.

Liz received her M.S in geology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, focusing on aqueous geochemistry and the surface-groundwater interactions. Prior to joining the NEON program, Liz worked in environmental consulting - characterizing the movement of contaminants in soil, surface water, and groundwater. Her responsibilities also included managing field programs, training technicians, and explaining technical aspects of investigations at public meetings. Combining her scientific and educational expertise, Liz has also developed content for National Park Service visitor centers, written modules on risk assessment for graduate students, and created training materials for K-12 educators focusing on botany and geology.
