About Peter

Peter is the manager of NEON’s Great Lakes Domain (Domain 05), located in Land O’Lakes, WI. He is responsible for planning Field Science work activities in the domain, including scheduling, budgeting, and hiring.

He has been studying the ecology and biogeochemistry of forests and wetlands since 1991. He has worked on projects investigating acid rain, nitrogen cycling, and spongy moth invasions in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia (M.S., Environmental Science, University of Virginia); nutrient uptake via mycorrhizal networks and the impacts of nutrient enrichment in calcareous wetland plant communities in central New York State (Ph.D., Natural Resources, Cornell University); and carbon cycling, trace gas fluxes, and climate-ecosystem feedbacks in forests and peatlands of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin (post-doctoral research, Soil, Water, and Climate, University of Minnesota). Prior to joining NEON, he served for five years as an Assistant Professor of Biology and Natural Resources at Northland College, a liberal arts college in northern Wisconsin that emphasizes environmental learning.
