Lead Scientist, Remote Sensing
Nathan Leisso is responsible for the development and implementation of the calibration protocols and procedures required to produce high quality remote sensing data from the AOP. Prior to joining NEON, Nathan was an assistant research scientist at the University of Arizona's Optical Sciences Center where he was primarily responsible for the radiometric calibration of satellite and airborne earth observing sensors. This involved the vicarious in-situ surface and atmospheric characterization of high desert test sites and subsequent radiative transfer calculations to predict the at-sensor radiance. In addition, he was involved in the laboratory characterization of instruments supporting these measurements. He holds a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and M.S. and Ph.D degrees from the University of Arizona.
