About Dave

Dave Barnett has two primary roles with NEON; he is responsible for the spatial sampling design – the location of plots within sites – for the observation and collection of terrestrial organisms and soil, and he also oversees the plant diversity (plant presence and percent cover) data product.

Prior to NEON, Dave designed long-term ecological monitoring programs for federal agencies and studied spatio-temporal patterns of plant diversity and invasive species at Colorado State University’s Natural Resource Ecology Lab. Current efforts focus on the impacts of climate change and species invasion on species composition and ecosystem function by combining NEON observations, sensor, and airborne data. He holds graduate degrees in ecology from Colorado State University and completed undergraduate work at Colorado College.
