About Bill

Bill Gallery received a B.S. in Physics from Yale and an M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Chicago. His areas of expertise are atmospheric Radiative Transfer Models (RTMs), Fourier transform spectroscopy and satellite meteorology. He was one of the authors of the well known RTMs MODTRAN and LBLRTM; the software he wrote is still in daily use around the world. He is well versed in IDL and FORTRAN 95. Most recently he worked at Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc. (AER) in Lexington MA on a wide variety of projects including: - writing the ATBD for Sea Surface Temperature for the ill-fated NPOESS program, - creating a 15-year climatology of Sudden (and not so sudden) Stratospheric Warmings from a variety of satellite and NWP data sources - translating the ATBDs into processes understandable by software developers for the GOES-R program.
