Archival Samples Catalog

The purpose of this draft catalog is to help researchers and PIs better understand the types of archival samples NEON is expected to collect and make available to the research community once in operations. All archived samples will be available by request and all related data will be openly available from the NEON Data Portal

Please note that the information on this page is based on the currently expected operations budget for the project which will not begin until 2018; therefore this content may be updated at any time and is subject to change. 

NEON's archival samples are divided into three categories: Biological, Genomic and Geological. Samples are collected at either terrestrial field sites or aquatic sites as noted in the tables below. A subset of samples have already been collected and archived from some field sites as part of NEON's construction activities and may be available from various curation facilities. Once the observatory is in full operations, collections of archival samples from field sites will become more standardized and consistent. An online ID look up system will also become available to help users find where samples are housed. In the meantime, please review currently available samples here.
